This book has been written in response to legislation enabling nurses to prescribe and thus expand their role within the NHS. It is divided into 9 chapters examining in detail each of the groups of products des cribed in the Nurse Prescribing Formulary (NPF). The authors have adop ted a standardised chapter format throughout, beginning with a sound u nderstanding of the basic pharmacology of each preparation, and buildi ng on this to incorporate relevant anatomical and physiological inform ation, an examination of the modes of action of the drugs covered, as well as their doses, common side effects, and contraindications.
Impor tant issues related to patient assessment, evaluation and education ar e also highlighted. There is also an important opening chapter on the legal and professional aspects of nurse prescribing.
